A Painful Reality of Hunger in Our Community

This is Chimwemwe Kumtindi. She lives with a health condition that causes seizures. She has a child and lives alone with her child. Because of her condition, she is unable to do any kind of work to support her family.

Chimwemwe is one of the vulnerable people we serve and care for through Hills of Joy Ministries.

Yesterday, my heart was deeply saddened when I saw her collecting leftover food and putting it in a piece of paper to take home so that she and her child could eat it later in the evening. 💔

This is the painful reality of food insecurity in many households in our community. Parents are struggling to find even one meal a day for their children, while vulnerable people like Chimwemwe have very limited options for survival.

This is why we are working hard to purchase enough food for our feeding programs, so that the people we serve can have access to a nutritious meal and experience the love and care they deserve.

We continue to humbly appeal for donations toward our feeding programs. Every contribution, no matter the size, can help put food on someone's table and bring hope to a vulnerable family.

Reflection on the Services of Hills of Joy Ministries

Hills of Joy Ministries continues to be a place where compassion, faith, and practical service come together to bring hope to vulnerable people in our communities. Our work is not simply about providing food or material assistance; it is about seeing people as valuable human beings created in the image of God. Through our services to the elderly, widows, orphans, people with disabilities, youth, and other vulnerable families, we seek to remind each person that they have dignity, value, and purpose.

One of the most meaningful parts of our ministry is our feeding program. For many of the elderly and vulnerable people we serve, a meal represents more than food, it is an expression of love and a reminder that they have not been forgotten. Every distribution gives us an opportunity to listen to their stories, understand their struggles, pray with them, and encourage them. We have seen that sometimes the greatest impact is not the amount of food given, but the love and dignity with which it is given.

Our Bible studies, home visits, evangelism, counseling, and discipleship are equally important. We believe that physical needs and spiritual needs should not be separated. Through God's Word, people are encouraged to trust Christ, grow in faith, understand their identity and calling, and find hope in the midst of difficult circumstances. Our desire is not merely to create temporary relief, but to see lives transformed through the Gospel and strengthened through meaningful relationships.

Looking back at our services, we are grateful for every volunteer, partner, donor, and supporter who has helped make this work possible. At the same time, we recognize that there is still much to be done. The needs in our communities are greater than our current resources, and this challenges us to pray, serve faithfully, and seek sustainable ways of helping people. We desire to develop programs that equip people with skills, strengthen families, support vulnerable groups, and create opportunities for greater independence.

Ultimately, Hills of Joy Ministries exists because we believe that Christian service should reflect the character of Christ. We want our communities to experience both compassionate care and the transforming truth of God's Word. Our prayer is that every person we serve will experience hope for today and discover purpose for tomorrow. As we continue this journey, we trust God to provide the wisdom, strength, people, and resources necessary to faithfully serve those He has placed before us.

New Lesson - "Accountability Starts With You" - has been added

Today at Hills of Joy Ministries, we gathered in small groups to study Acts 3, where we reflected on Christ's power to restore broken lives through the gospel. We were reminded that our greatest need is not merely physical provision but salvation through Jesus Christ alone. As God's Word was faithfully taught, believers were encouraged to trust in His sovereign grace and to live lives of repentance, faith, and joyful obedience.

Our children studied Acts 5, learning about God's holiness, the importance of honesty, and the courage to obey God above all else. It is encouraging to see many children growing in biblical understanding, becoming more respectful at home, praying with confidence, and sharing the gospel with their friends. The transforming power of God's Word is producing visible fruit in their daily lives.

After our Bible studies, we shared meals through our feeding program, serving vulnerable children and elderly members of the community. While food meets immediate physical needs, our greatest desire is to point every person to Christ, the Bread of Life. Through this ministry, we continue to witness hope replacing despair, stronger relationships within the community, and hearts being drawn to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. TODAY’S MINISTRY UPDATE – SENIOR GROUP KALENJEKA

Today, Hills Of Joy Ministries went into the Kalenjeka community for a Community Bible Study and visitation ministry. Our Bible study was based on Acts 4, where we were reminded of the boldness of the apostles, the power of the risen Christ, and the truth that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. From a Reformed perspective, this reminds us that the church does not create its own message—the gospel is God’s truth, and our calling is to faithfully proclaim it. As our people hear and study God’s Word together, they are being strengthened in faith, encouraged to trust in God’s sovereignty, and reminded that their hope does not depend on their circumstances but on Christ.

Our community visitations also gave us an opportunity to meet people where they are, listen to their struggles, pray with them, encourage them, and remind them that they are not forgotten. Many elderly people and vulnerable families carry burdens that are not always visible from the outside. A simple visit can restore dignity, bring encouragement, and open the door for deeper spiritual care. Through these visits, we are not only addressing immediate needs but building relationships through which the love and truth of Christ can be demonstrated.

Today was therefore more than an activity—it was an investment in people. God uses His Word to transform hearts, and He uses His people to carry that Word into the lives of others. Our prayer is that the seeds planted in Kalenjeka will produce lasting fruit: stronger faith, renewed hope, deeper fellowship, and lives increasingly shaped by the gospel of Jesus Christ. We thank God for allowing Hills Of Joy Ministries to serve our community, trusting that “the word of God continued to increase and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly” (Acts 6:7).

I’m sharing with you the preliminary sketch plan for the proposed Hills of Joy Ministries facility. This is part of our vision to establish a permanent place where we can serve the elderly, widows, orphans, people with disabilities, youth, and other vulnerable members of our community.

The plan is still at the conceptual stage, but it gives us a picture of what we are praying and working toward—a facility that will provide space for ministry, community outreach, feeding programs, training, basic healthcare, and other services that bring hope and dignity to our people.

We welcome your prayers, ideas, and support as we continue developing this vision. We believe that with God’s guidance and the partnership of people who share this burden, this vision can become a reality.

Meet Gogo Sikatha Mwaleyi, 80 Years Old

Gogo Sikatha Mwaleyi is 80 years old and lives alone. She is living with the effects of a stroke that has affected her arm and leg, making it extremely difficult for her to walk or do any work to support herself. The house she lives in is in a very poor and deteriorating condition, and there is currently no food in her home. The few people who sometimes help her are also limited in what they can provide. As a result, there are times when Gogo Sikatha goes to bed hungry.

This is more than a story of poverty, it is a reminder of the suffering many elderly people face in our communities, often quietly and without anyone noticing. Please join us in praying for Gogo Sikatha. Pray that God, in His mercy and providence, will provide for her daily needs, strengthen her body, comfort her heart, and send people who will stand with her during this difficult season. May God open doors for practical help, food, proper care, and a safe place for her to live. We believe that even in seasons of deep suffering, God does not abandon His children.

Today we had the privilege of serving in Nsabwe Village, where we conducted a Community Outreach followed by Home Visitations after our Group Bible Study. Our study was from Acts 2:37–47, which shows how the gospel transforms lives through repentance, faith in Christ, and commitment to the fellowship of believers. The early church devoted themselves to God's Word, prayer, and caring for one another, becoming a powerful testimony to their community. This passage reminds us that when people are changed by the gospel, families are strengthened, communities become more united, and the love of Christ is made visible through lives of generosity, compassion, and faithful service.

After the Bible study, we visited several homes to encourage those who were unable to attend weekly Bible studies at the center because of old age, illness, or other challenges. Home visitations allow us to bring God's Word directly to people, pray with families, listen to their needs, and provide spiritual and emotional encouragement. They also help us build lasting relationships within the community and ensure that no one feels forgotten. We thank God for His faithfulness and for the opportunity to continue sharing hope, strengthening faith, and demonstrating Christ's love through the ministry of Hills of Joy Ministries.

As you can see in the picture, the people we serve are struggling to sit in the direct sun during our Bible study sessions. The weather has now changed, and it has become extremely hot, making it difficult—especially for the elderly and other vulnerable participants—to attend comfortably.

Our desire is to complete the construction of our shelter so that everyone can gather in the shade for Bible study, fellowship, and other ministry activities. A finished shelter will provide a safe and comfortable place where people can worship, learn God's Word, and receive care regardless of the weather.

We are prayerfully seeking a generous supporter who can help us with $200 to purchase the remaining materials needed to complete this shelter. Even though I have been struggling with diarrhea, I was still able to be present and serve in today's ministry. By God's grace, we gathered for our Bible Study from Acts 1:1–8, where we were reminded that the mission of the Church belongs to Jesus Christ and is accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit. The study encouraged us to remain faithful witnesses of Christ, depending on God's strength rather than our own as we continue serving the elderly, widows, children, and vulnerable families in our communities.

In addition to the Bible Study, we continued our chlorine production and distribution program to help provide safer drinking water and reduce the spread of waterborne diseases. It is a blessing to share the love of Christ not only through the preaching of God's Word but also by meeting practical needs that improve the health and well-being of the people we serve.

We are grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and prayer partner who stands with Hills of Joy Ministries. Please continue praying for our team, for the communities we serve, and for my health as I recover. Together, by God's grace, we will continue bringing Hope For Today, Purpose For Tomorrow.

Dear Brethren 

We would like to inform you that due to a funeral within the community we serve, today's door-to-door household visitation ministry has been cancelled. As a ministry, we believe it is important to stand with our community during times of grief by offering our prayers, presence, and support.

We also wish to notify everyone that tomorrow's Feeding Program will not take place for the same reason. We appreciate your understanding as we join the bereaved family in mourning and comforting those who have lost their loved one.

Please continue to pray for the grieving family, asking God to grant them peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time. We will communicate the new ministry schedule as soon as possible.

Hope For Today, Purpose For Tomorrow

Today at Hills of Joy Ministries, we held our weekly Bible study from Luke 18:1–34. To encourage deeper understanding and participation, everyone was divided into small groups where they discussed the passage together, asked questions, and reflected on how its lessons apply to their daily lives. This approach helped participants engage more personally with God's Word and strengthened their faith.

Our children also had their own Bible class, where they learned about trusting God. Their memory verse was Proverbs 3:5–6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." The lesson encouraged the children to depend on God in every situation and to grow in confidence in His guidance.

At the end of the program, we prepared and distributed chlorine to help families access safe drinking water and prevent waterborne diseases. With schools currently on break, we are grateful to have dedicated young volunteers who are giving their time to teach and mentor the children. We look forward to welcoming more young people who have a heart to serve, build meaningful relationships with these children, and make a lasting impact in their lives.

Dear brothers and sisters,

We would like to inform you that the price of a 50kg bag of maize has increased from MK35,000 to MK37,500. This means that if we delay purchasing maize, the cost may continue to rise, making it even more difficult for us to sustain our feeding program.

As many of you know, this feeding program provides meals to vulnerable elderly people, orphans, and people living with disabilities who depend on it each week. Rising maize prices will reduce the amount of maize we can afford and may eventually affect the number of people we are able to feed.

We are therefore kindly asking anyone who is able to help us purchase maize to consider making a donation at this time. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to securing enough maize before prices increase further.

Building a new shelter

Today's outreach at Hills Of Joy Ministries was another meaningful day of service as we provided meals to 140 beneficiaries, including 50 vulnerable children and 90 elderly people. Beyond meeting physical needs, we shared God's love through fellowship and encouraged everyone to remain steadfast in hope despite the challenges they face.

Our Bible study focused on Luke 16:1-31, where we learned the importance of faithful stewardship, living with eternal priorities, showing compassion to those in need, and responding to God's Word with obedience. The lesson encouraged our community to become responsible, honest, generous, and to seek Christ above temporary earthly possessions.

If our people continue faithfully attending these Bible studies, we believe their lives, families, and the wider community will be transformed. They will grow in biblical wisdom, strengthen their faith, make godly decisions, care for one another with greater love, and become instruments of positive change, helping build a community marked by hope, integrity, and compassion.

Although I had not fully recovered, by the grace of the Lord I was able to go out and serve in the ministry today.

Today, our Bible study on Luke 12:1–12 encouraged everyone to pursue a genuine relationship with God instead of merely appearing religious. Participants were reminded that God sees every heart, calls us to trust Him rather than fear people, and promises to care for those who faithfully follow Christ. The discussion brought hope, renewed confidence, and challenged everyone to live with integrity and boldness in their daily lives.

As our community continues to faithfully attend these Bible studies, we believe they will grow deeper in God's Word, develop stronger faith, and become courageous witnesses for Christ. Through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, families and communities will be strengthened, lives will be changed, and more people will come to know the hope and salvation found in Jesus Christ.

 Alongside spiritual growth, we also continued our chlorine production and distribution initiative, helping families gain access to safe drinking water while promoting better health and hygiene in the communities we serve.

Dear brothers and sisters, please keep me in your prayers. I have been struggling with a severe cough since I was out serving in ministry this afternoon. I have tried drinking plenty of water and taking the medicine I have, but it has not improved. At the moment, I am coughing continuously and very heavily. I would greatly appreciate your prayers for God's healing and strength.

Today, our Hills of Joy Ministries team, together with Caroline Malanga Alinafe Sanudi, visited Nsabwe Village for a day of home visitations, household needs assessments, and a group Bible study from Luke 9:1–15. It was a fruitful and encouraging day as we spent meaningful time with community members, sharing God's Word, praying together, and strengthening one another in faith. These visits also gave us a deeper understanding of the personal and practical challenges many families continue to face.

One of the most pressing issues throughout the community is severe food insecurity. Although many of these individuals gather at our center each week and receive a meal through our feeding program, the assistance is not enough to meet their ongoing needs. Many households continue to struggle daily with hunger, making it increasingly difficult to maintain hope and provide for their families.

In the face of these hardships, the resilience of the community is remarkable. Many people spend long hours cutting and selling grass simply to earn enough money to buy a small amount of food for that day, only to repeat the same struggle the following day. Most are unable to afford fertilizer or other essential farming inputs, resulting in very poor harvests. While a few households harvest up to ten bags of maize, many produce only two to five bags—far from sufficient to sustain their families throughout the year. These realities underscore the urgent need for continued support, sustainable agricultural assistance, and ongoing community care.

Blessed are the little ones

At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

PERSONAL REFLECTION:

Jesus thanks the Father, for it is the will of the Father to reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom to the little ones, to the innocents, to the childlike. For they fully trust in the Father.

Not to the wise, intelligent, or learned ones. Normally, the learned ones have a high sense of self-esteem and pride. 

Instead of praising God and giving credit to God for the revelation, they will give credit to themselves and their intelligence for arriving at such insights and revealed truths.

The ego seeks self-glory. 

The little ones do not seek glory, but rather give honor & praise. 

They receive God's revelations with humility, awe, and wonder. 

Not with a closed, scheming, or selfish mind. Nor with a proud heart. 

May we be like the little ones in learning our faith. May we grow in awe and wonder to the revelations of God. May we give Him praise and glory always. --ZBT--

A stranger walked up to a 16-year-old busking at a Phuket market and asked a simple question: can I help you?

That moment, it turns out, is why Nene Royal ended up on the America's Got Talent stage.

Speaking on Thai talk show Hone Krasae this week, Nene and her father Narong Amloy finally explained how a girl playing for tips at Naka market got a shot at the biggest talent show on the planet.

Her dad says an American man came and sat watching her play. Afterwards he approached them and asked whether he could help, whether he could act as her coordinator for everything, and what her dream actually was. They told him: America's Got Talent.

He flew home. Then he came back with a suggestion. Make an audition clip and send it to me, and I will pass it on.

So father and daughter made one. Silence. They made another. Silence again. By the fourth and fifth attempt, with no reply, they gave up and stopped.

Then AGT got in touch. They wanted to see the clip again. Fix it and make it better, came the note. So the pair sat down together, reworked it and sent it back.

And then, silence again.

What happened next is the part that gets you. The American didn't email. He got on a plane, flew back to Phuket, picked up Narong and Nene in his car, and told them face to face that she was in. Her dad broke down in tears.

He never charged them a baht. He also helped cover the travel and flights that made the trip possible.

We still don't know his name. Nobody has published it, and the family have only ever described him as the American man who offered to help.

The rest is history. Nene sang The Cranberries' "Zombie" on the AGT stage, took four yeses, and the clip has since passed 100 million views on the show's TikTok.

She's had other quiet backers too. That vintage 1970s Ibanez she plays was a gift from a fan in Denmark. And this week the Prime Minister welcomed her to Government House, with the government pledging to help fund her next round.

But it started with a stranger at a market, and one question.

Who was the person who believed in you before anyone else did?

DON’T GIVE UP 

If you have had a bad day, forgive yourself and do better tomorrow. 

 If you knew beyond a shadow of doubt that your adversity was going to turn into a glorious victory, would you give up? –Jerry Savelle

 Whatever you may be facing or experiencing right now in your life we encourage you to go through it and DON’T GIVE UP! Make a HABIT of not giving up.  

 No matter how bad the condition of your life and your mind, DON’T GIVE UP! Regain your territory that has been stolen from you, even if it is a fraction at a time. Keep on keeping on. 

 This is what most successful people do quietly and regularly to stop from giving up: 

Have a calm and constant routine, eliminate needless busy work, do what needs to be done today. Gradually turn obstacles around. Learn by stretching themselves. Go with intuition. Make tough decisions. Focus on a positive mindset. Create a vision board as a reminder. Keeps a personal notebook. Have mentors they consult. Welcome honest feedback and criticism. Keep pride in check.

 Workshop Discussion: Overcoming Adversity and Cultivating Resilience 

Introduction: Let's begin by reflecting on the powerful thought above  from Jerry Savelle: “Don’t give up. Just because you had a bad day, forgive yourself and do better tomorrow. If you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that your adversity was going to turn into a glorious victory, would you give up?” 

Group Activity: Take a moment to think about a recent challenge you've faced. How did it make you feel? Did you find yourself wanting to give up? Now, consider this: If you knew that this challenge would eventually lead to a positive outcome, would you approach it differently? Share your thoughts with the group. 

Discussion Prompt 1: Whatever you may be facing or experiencing right now in your life, we encourage you to go through it and DON’T GIVE UP! What are some specific situations where you've felt the urge to quit? What strategies have helped you push through? Let’s discuss how making a HABIT of not giving up can transform our lives. How do you define the habit of resilience in your own life? 

Discussion Prompt 2: No matter how bad the condition of your life and your mind, DON’T GIVE UP! Regain your territory that has been stolen from you, even if it is a fraction at a time. Share with the group a time when you successfully reclaimed something that you had lost, whether it was a sense of peace, confidence, or control over a situation.

Closing Thought: As mentioned above, Jim Rohn wisely said, “Motivation is what gets you started. HABIT is what keeps you going.” Reflect on this statement.  

What habits do you need to cultivate to ensure you don't give up, even when the going gets tough? 

Final Reflection: As we wrap up, take a few minutes to write down one habit you commit to developing and one action you will take this week to reinforce that habit. Share it with a partner and check in with each other throughout the week for accountability.

Due to the dusty conditions, strong winds, and intense heat at the place where we currently gather, we are planning to construct a simple temporary shelter. This will provide a safe and comfortable place for our Bible studies, fellowship, and community activities while we continue trusting God to provide land where we can build permanent ministry facilities.

We humbly ask you to keep this need in your prayers. Please pray that God will provide the building materials and resources needed to make this temporary shelter possible. Your prayers and support are a great encouragement to us as we continue serving our community in the name of Christ.

Hills Of Joy Ministries – Ministry Update

Today, we gathered for our weekly small group Bible study, where we studied Luke 7:18–35. Together, we reflected on how Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah whose works confirm His identity and authority. Our discussion reminded us that believers may face moments of doubt, as John the Baptist did, but Christ faithfully strengthens His people through His Word. We were also challenged not to respond with unbelief like those who rejected both John and Jesus, but instead to trust God's sovereign plan, embrace His grace, and follow Christ with humble and obedient hearts. Many participants shared that the study encouraged them to remain steadfast in their faith despite life's challenges and to place their confidence fully in Christ.

Following the Bible study, we continued our feeding program for orphans, elderly people, and individuals living with disabilities. Today's meal consisted of nsima served with cabbage and soya pieces, providing nourishment and fellowship to those we serve.

We also distributed chlorine to families within the community to promote safe drinking water and help prevent waterborne diseases. Through these acts of mercy, we continue seeking to care for both the physical and spiritual needs of our community, giving all glory to God for His faithful provision and guidance.

Today, my heart is filled with gratitude as I reflect on the journey of Daniel Hopes Foundation Group.

Since we started in 2016, our mission has always been about one thing: bringing hope, love, and support to orphans and vulnerable children. What began as a small step of compassion has grown into a journey of touching lives, sharing smiles, and reminding children that they are valued and not forgotten.

There have been challenges along the way, but every moment spent serving others has reminded us why we started. A child’s smile, a word of encouragement, and a simple act of kindness can bring hope and make a lasting impact.

We thank God for the strength, guidance, and opportunities to continue this mission. We are grateful for everyone who has supported us, prayed for us, and believed in the vision.

Reflection: Blessing Others in the Midst of Your Own Storm

"Your greatest test is when you are able to bless someone else while you are going through your own storm."

One of the greatest marks of Christian maturity is not how we serve God when life is easy, but how we continue to love, give, and serve others when our own hearts are hurting. Anyone can be generous during seasons of abundance, but it takes the grace of God to bless others while carrying personal burdens.

The Bible reminds us that our Lord Jesus Christ is the perfect example. Though He endured rejection, suffering, and the cross, He continued to heal the sick, feed the hungry, comfort the brokenhearted, and ultimately gave His life for sinners (Philippians 2:5–8). Christ's love was not dependent on His circumstances but on His unwavering obedience to the Father's will.

This truth is especially meaningful for us at Hills Of Joy Ministries. There are many days when we face financial challenges, lack enough maize for our feeding program, and wonder how we will continue serving the elderly and orphaned children. Yet, by God's grace, we continue to share what little we have. We have learned that ministry is not about serving only when we have plenty, but about trusting God enough to give even when resources are limited.

When we bless others during our own storms, we declare that our hope is not in our circumstances but in the faithfulness of God. Such acts of love become a testimony that Christ is our strength. They also remind us that God often comforts us as we comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:3–4).

If you are walking through a difficult season today, do not let your pain close your heart. Continue to pray for others, encourage someone, share what you can, and show the love of Christ. You may discover that God strengthens you as you become a blessing to someone else.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach us to trust You even in the midst of our storms. Help us to reflect the love of Christ by serving and blessing others, not only when life is easy but also when it is difficult. May our lives point people to Your faithfulness and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Good morning, everyone.

We would like to clarify why our feeding program is currently held only once a week, even though we continue to appeal for support and purchase maize for the program.

At this stage, our available resources are still very limited. For that reason, we made the difficult decision to provide meals one day each week so that we can continue serving those in need in a sustainable way. However, our vision is much greater. Our prayer and goal is to expand the feeding program to Monday through Saturday as soon as God provides sufficient food and financial support.

The reality in our community is heartbreaking. Many of the elderly and vulnerable families we serve have very little food, while some have none at all. A number of them survive by gathering leftover maize and other crops from fields after the owners have completed their harvests. This clearly shows the urgent need for continued compassion and support.

At present, we are actively seeking partnership opportunities with churches, ministries, organizations, and individuals who share our passion for serving the vulnerable. People like you are the reason this ministry continues to move forward. Through your prayers, encouragement, financial support, and generosity, you have become a vital part of bringing hope and practical care to those who need it most. We sincerely thank every one of you for standing with Hills Of Joy Ministries.

Despite the strong winds, cloudy skies, and cold weather this morning, many people gathered with joyful hearts and a deep eagerness to hear and discuss the Word of God. Through our small group Bible study, we reflected on Luke 5:1–39. This passage reminded us that Jesus Christ has authority over every area of life. He calls ordinary sinners to follow Him, demonstrates His power to forgive sins, and shows that true transformation comes by God's grace rather than through human effort. Our people were encouraged to trust Christ completely, knowing that He alone is able to change hearts and give new life.

Our discussion also highlighted the calling of the first disciples and the healing of the paralytic. These accounts reminded us that every believer is called to follow Christ in faithful obedience and to care for others by pointing them to Him. We were also encouraged by the example of Levi, whose life was transformed after encountering Jesus. His story reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God's saving grace and that those whom Christ saves are called to live lives that honor Him.

As Hills of Joy Ministries continues to provide regular Bible studies within the communities we serve, we pray that God will use His Word to strengthen faith, increase biblical understanding, and encourage lives marked by repentance and obedience to Christ. Consistent study of Scripture helps people grow in spiritual maturity, apply God's truth to their daily lives, support one another in faith, and remain firmly grounded in the gospel as they continue to worship and serve the Lord in their local churches and communities.

Appeal for Support to Purchase Maize

Dear Friends and Partners,

As highlighted in our June ministry report, the price of maize has already started increasing. We believe this is the best time to purchase it before the price rises even further or supplies become scarce.

Currently, a 50 kg bag of maize costs MWK 32,500 (approximately US$19).

Our goal is to buy enough maize to sustain our feeding program until April next year, enabling us to continue providing meals for the elderly and orphaned children under our care without interruption.

We humbly ask you to prayerfully consider supporting this urgent need with whatever amount the Lord enables you to give. We learned that God faithfully fulfills His promises in His perfect time, as seen in the birth of Jesus Christ and in the lives of Simeon and Anna, who patiently trusted the Lord while waiting for the Savior. This passage encourages us to remain faithful, patient, and confident that God never forgets His people and always keeps His Word. For the elderly friends we serve, this message brings hope and assurance that their lives are precious to God, that He is always with them, and that they can continue trusting Him regardless of their age or circumstances.

Feeding today

Today's Bible study from Luke 1

Luke 1:1–20 teaches that God's Word is trustworthy and that He faithfully accomplishes His redemptive purposes according to His sovereign will and perfect timing. Luke wrote so that believers might have certainty concerning the truth of the gospel, while Zechariah and Elizabeth demonstrate that God remains faithful to His covenant even when His people wait for many years. Zechariah's unbelief also reminds us that God's promises are not dependent on human faithfulness but are fulfilled by His grace and power. This passage encourages our community to trust the authority of God's Word, persevere in faith during trials, submit to God's providence, and live in obedient hope, knowing that the Lord is always accomplishing His purposes for His glory and for the good of His people.

Teaching about Charity, Prayer, and Fasting

“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

“So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

“And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

PERSONAL REFLECTION:

For whom do we do our actions?  

Is it for ourself... to satisfy and pleasure ourselves? 

Is it for the crowd... so that we may attain self-glory? 

Is it for a loved one... that we may make them happy?

Or is it for the Lord... that we may praise and honor Him?

Jesus warns us of not putting up appearances, in order to elevate our image before others. Such is deception... a lie... which is done before God. 

Jesus tells us not to be hypocrites.

He tells us to do things out of sincerity... out of pureness of our hearts. Without any ulterior motive. Without any intention to gain.

Ultimately, God sees everything. He sees our hearts to its very core. There is nothing we can hide before Him. We are totally naked... body, mind, and soul... before God.  

In every thought, in every desire, in every intent, in every word, in every action... He sees through us.  

Let us then be pure and honest before God. Let us live a life of transparency, of authenticity, of total obedience before God. In everything we think, intend, say, or do... let us do it, not for our selfish gain, but always for the greater glory of God. --ZBT--

Support Request for Saturday Meeting and Volunteer Training

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hills of Joy Ministries will be holding an important meeting this Saturday, which will also serve as a valuable opportunity to provide training and capacity-building for our volunteers. This training is aimed at equipping our team with the knowledge and skills needed to serve our communities more effectively.

To facilitate the event, we have prepared a food budget of MK60,000 (approximately USD $35). We already have maize flour available and only need to purchase vegetables and other basic food items for the participants.

Today at Hills of Joy Ministries, we studied Deuteronomy 28:15–50, learning about the consequences of disobedience and the importance of remaining faithful to God. The lesson reminded us that God's commands are given to guide us into a life of blessing, peace, and purpose.

This Bible study challenged us to examine our lives and renew our commitment to obeying God's Word. We thank God for the lives that were encouraged and strengthened through today's fellowship and teaching.

Before I started attending Hills of Joy Ministries and learning God's Word, I hardly prayed at all. Prayer was not really part of my life. But through the teachings, I learned how to pray, and now I pray before I sleep, before I eat, and throughout the day. In the past, I often suffered from bad dreams and sleepless nights, but now God is protecting me, and I have found peace through prayer.

Clean Water, Healthy Communities

One of the greatest desires in life is to enjoy good health. Good health goes hand in hand with access to clean and safe water. Communities cannot thrive without water, and where water sources are unsafe or poorly maintained, people are often exposed to diseases and poor health conditions.

We are delighted to share that we are now producing chlorine and distributing it to members of our community. This initiative is helping families who have relied on untreated well water for many years to make their drinking water safer and healthier.

Through this effort, we are contributing to the prevention of waterborne diseases, promoting better hygiene, and improving the overall well-being of our people. We believe that access to clean water is not a privilege but a basic necessity, and we are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.

Teaching about Prayer

“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

PERSONAL REFLECTION:

The 'Our Father' is the Lord's Prayer. It is a complete prayer.

In it, we give praise and honor to God our Father.

We ask that God reigns in us, in all of us, as He reigns in heaven.

We surrender to His grace and provision.

We ask for His forgiveness and mercy, as we also forgive others.

And we ask for His protection from temptation and the evil one.

Let us pray this everyday, before we begin our day and as we end our day. Let us align and surrender our will to His will. Let us live a life of gratitude to our Creator, always thankful regardless of our circumstances, and be forgiving & merciful as He is merciful to us.   --ZBT--

Today, Hills of Joy Ministries was blessed to conduct a powerful and encouraging Bible Study from Matthew 5:1–12, where we reflected on the Beatitudes and the blessings that God promises to those who trust in Him. This fellowship brought hope, comfort, and spiritual strength to our elderly friends as they continue to navigate the challenges of aging, while also encouraging those living with HIV, people with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable members of our community. Through God's Word, everyone was reminded that they are loved, valued, and never forgotten by God, regardless of their circumstances. The study strengthened faith, promoted unity and belonging, and inspired us all to continue walking in God's grace and sharing His love with others. We thank God for a successful ministry day and for the opportunity to bring spiritual encouragement and hope to those we serve through Hills of Joy Ministries.

After our Bible Study from Matthew 5:1–12, we had the opportunity to participate in SWIM (Safe Water Instruction Ministry) training, where community members learned how to produce chlorine for household water treatment. This training is especially important because the area we serve has no access to boreholes, and many families depend on unsafe water from unprotected wells. As a result, cases of diarrhea and other waterborne diseases are common, particularly among children, the elderly, and other vulnerable people in our community.

We are deeply grateful to Abundant Life Ministries for remembering Hills of Joy Ministries through this valuable SWIM training and for providing the equipment needed to begin producing chlorine locally. Their support is helping us take practical steps toward improving community health, preventing waterborne diseases, and ensuring that more families have access to safe drinking water. This partnership is not only providing knowledge and tools but is also bringing hope, dignity, and healthier lives to the people we serve. We thank God for this opportunity and look forward to seeing the positive impact of safe water in our community for years to come.

Bible Study last night at Hills of Joy Malawi

Our Reflection: 

Wearing His Name vs. Showing His Character

“We misrepresent God when we wear His name but not His character.”

This is the divide we see every day in our villages.

Wearing His name looks like this: 

Saying “God bless you” to a widow… then walking past her empty cooking pot.  

Singing worship on Sunday… while calling a grandma “lazy” because she’s too old, sick, and weak to farm.  

Posting Bible verses online… while ignoring Grandpa struggling to walk to the borehole.  

Claiming “we love all”... while avoiding the disabled child or the neighbor living with HIV.

Showing His character looks like this:

Sitting on a dirt floor to share porridge with an orphan who smells like hunger.  

Carrying water for a grandmother the family calls “useless” because her body gave out.  

Holding Grandpa’s arm on the path because his legs shake and no one else will.  

Bending down to feed a disabled brother who cannot feed himself.  

Sitting beside a sister with HIV and reminding her, “You are not cursed. You are loved.”

1 John 3:18 says, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

The real problem in Malawi isn’t that people don’t know God’s name.

It’s that His name has been separated from His character.  

God’s character is James 1:27 — “to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”  

God’s character is Isaiah 46:4 — “Even to your old age I am He, and to gray hairs I will carry you.”  

God’s character is Luke 14:13-14 — “Invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.”  

God’s character is Matthew 25:40 — “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for Me.”

At Hills of Joy, we’ve decided: If we wear His name, we must reflect His heart.

That’s why we feed. That’s why we teach. That’s why we kneel beside Grandpa struggling, carry food to the sister with HIV others shun, and play with the child whose legs don’t work.  

The world doesn’t need more people with “Christian” in their bio.  

The world needs people who make God recognizable, by the way they treat the old, the sick, the disabled, and the stigmatized.

When an orphan eats, they should taste God’s provision.  

When a grandmother too weak to cook is fed, she should feel God’s strength.  

When Grandpa struggling is helped to his feet, he should see God’s hands.  

When a disabled person is embraced, they should know God’s nearness.  

When someone with HIV is served with dignity, they should feel God’s love, not shame.

Our prayer:

Lord, don’t let us misrepresent You.  

Don’t let us call “lazy” what You call “precious.”  

Don’t let us call “cursed” what You call “child.”  

If we carry Your name, let us carry Your compassion.
